WHAT MIGHT YOU GET OUT OF THE RESEARCH STUDY?

PERSONAL BENEFITS

Research shows that losing at least 5% of your weight can lead to positive health improvements. The S.I.S.T.E.R.S. research study is designed to help women achieve at least that amount of weight loss with the knowledge and skills to change your lifestyle.

 

During the study you may benefit from:

  • Knowledge from experts in nutrition, exercise, and weight loss

  • Weekly feedback about your diet and physical activity

  • Weight loss and lower risk of developing diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease

 

It does not cost anything to participate in S.I.S.T.E.R.S. For completing study questionnaires and visits at end of the study (after 4 months), participants will receive $75.

 

At the end of the study you will have learned key lessons and practiced proven strategies to successfully lose weight and improve your health.

 

COMMUNITY BENEFIT

The needs of black women are at the core of this study. By participating in this study, you join an effort to help us understand what may work to help black women achieve a healthy weight. Knowledge gained through S.I.S.T.ER.S. will aid in the development of future work centered on black women's health.

WHAT YOU GIVE DURING THE RESEARCH STUDY?

HOW WILL WE KNOW IF THE PROGRAM WORKED?

To help us learn how the study affects your health and weight, you will be asked to complete 2 assessment visits (before and after the study) in addition to the hybrid group sessions via Zoom.

 

Assessment visits include:

  • online questionnaires

  • height, weight, waist, blood pressure and other physical measurements
